Eine Woche ist es nun her, dass Young Dolph in seiner Heimatstadt Memphis erschossen wurde. Nach seinem plötzlichen Tod veröffentlicht die Familie des Rappers nun ein erstes Statement. „Es gibt keine Worte, die ausreichen würden, um unseren Schmerz, den wir als Familie fühlen, auszudrücken“, heißt es dort. Der Verlust von „Adolph, Dolph, Man-Man“ habe ihre Leben nun für immer und unwiederbringlich verändert. „And while we will take each day as it comes, we are comforted in knowing that he leaves a legacy that reflects his heart. A heart that was for his family. A heart that was für the people.“

HotNewHipHop beschreibt Young Dolph in diesem Zusammenhang als nicht nur als „wichtige Figur der Rap-Community in Memphis“: „[…] he was even more significant as a community leader.“ Der Rapper habe sich besonders dafür ausgezeichnet, gegenüber seiner Community und seiner Heimatstadt eine unverkennbar große Verantwortung zu verspüren – und diesem Verantwortungsgefühl auch nachzukommen, heißt es weiter. „We know through Dolph’s music and his movements that he was self-aware and strategic, and thus, the risk that runs with staying around the neighborhood he grew up in was surely not lost on him. And yet, he put a certain responsibility to his community above any such risk.“ Genau das habe Dolph zu dem gemacht, der er war. „And that ist what made Dolph, Dolph“, schreibt Rose Lilah in einem Nachruf auf den Rapper. Young Dolph habe seine Herkunft und seine Community zu keinem Zeitpunkt vergessen. Das zeige sich unter anderem darin, dass er für seine ehemalige High School gespendet habe, darin, dass er nur zwei Tage seinem Tod das örtliche West Cancer Center besuchte, darin, dass er zu Thanksgiving jährlich Truthahn-Give-aways veranstaltete, darin, dass er im Namen seiner Großmutter zugunsten seiner Community die ‚Ida Mae Foundation‘ ins Leben gerufen hatte, so Lilah weiter in besagtem Nachruf. „Dolph didn’t remain a local presence selfishly. It was for the sake of the people who raised him, for the sake of his family, friends, and perhaps even more so, for the generations that will succeed him.“

Bereits unmittelbar nach dem Tod von Young Dolph war die öffentliche Anteilnahme groß; vor wenigen Tagen meldete sich auch sein Signing Key Glock zu Wort. „Damn bro, I’m LOST“, schrieb er. „My heart is torn, my brain bout to explode it HURTS when I breathe […] All I see is DARKNESS, only GOD knows how much you meant to me.“
