Die Geto Boys zählten Ende der 80iger, Anfang der 90iger zu den einflussreichsten Rapformationen in den Südstaaten der USA. Die Crew bestand in ihrer erfolgreichsten Zeit aus den Rappern Scarface, Bushwick Bill & Willie D und veröffentlichte ihre Musik über das legendäre Houston Label Rap-A-Lot Records unter CEO J. Prince. Der wohl bekannteste Track der Formation, „Mind Playing Tricks on Me„, erschien 1991.
Anfang des Jahres wurde bei Bushwick Bill Bauchspeicheldrüsenkrebs diagnostiziert, woran der 52jährige Künstler nun verstorben ist.
„Bushwick Bill passed away peacefully this evening at 9:35 p.m. He was surrounded by his immediate family“
hieß es von seinem Publizisten gegenüber dem Rolling Stone Magazine.
Zahlreiche Künstler meldeten sich zu Wort, nachdem die traurige News die Runde machte.
