Die homophoben Aussagen, die Charlotte-Rapper DaBaby auf dem Rolling Loud Festival tätigte, haben nun weitreichende Konsequenzen für den Rapper: Nachdem DaBaby heftigen Gegenwind von Fans und Stars wegen klar homophober Aussagen bekommen hat, zogen nun zahlreiche Festivals die Reißleine für DaBaby. Wie das Day N Vegas Festival bekannt gab, wurde DaBaby von den Veranstalter*innen vom Lineup gestrichen: „DaBaby will no longer be appearing at Day N Vegas 2021„, lautet eine Nachricht des Festivals auf Instagram. Er wird nun von „The Box„-Rapper Roddy Ricch ersetzt.
Das Day N Vegas Festival ist nicht das erste Festival, dass DaBaby für seine Aussagen vom Lineup entfernt hat. Nachdem das Lollapalooza Festival DaBabys Show cancelte, zog auch das Governors Ball Festival nach. Auf Twitter postete The Governors Ball Festival ein Statement: „Founders Entertainment does not and will not tolerate hate or discrimination of any kind. We welcome and celebrate the diverse communities that make New York City the greatest city in the world. Thank you to the fans who continue to speak up for what is right. Along with you, we will continue to use our platform for good„.
Zu den zahlreichen Stars, die sich klar gegen die Aussagen des Rappers stellen, gehören Demi Lovato oder auch Elton John, der auf Twitter schrieb: „We’ve been shocked to read about the HIV misinformation and homophobic statements made at a recent DaBaby show. This fuels stigma and discrimination and is the opposite of what our world needs to fight the AIDS epidemic„.
DaBaby hat indessen eine Entschudigung auf Instagram gepostet. Aus dieser geht hervor, dass er sich über die Themen informiert und dazu gelernt habe: „I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless„.
