Insgesamt gibt es dieses Jahr drei verschiedene Cover. Als erste Rapperin jemals feiert die Texanerin Megan Thee Stallion auf dem Cover Premiere. Als eines von insgesamt drei Covermodels reiht sie sich zwischen der Tennisspielerin Naomi Ōsaka und Schauspielerin und Model Leyna Bloom ein.
Auf Instagram postete Megan Thee Stallion ihre Version des Covers und dankt allen starken Frauen, die sie inspiriert haben, ihren Körper so zu lieben wie er ist: „Thee first female rapper on the cover of @si_swimsuit. I want to thank all the strong women in my life who inspired me to love my body and live my best hot girl life. It means the world to me to be on this cover DREAM COME TRUE!!„. Megan Thee Stallion rege laut Sports Illustrated Menschen ungefiltert zum Nachdenken an und nutze ihre Plattform, um Grenzen zu durchbrechen: „Megan Thee Stallion doesn’t stay in one lane. In fact, she encourages everyone to be in multiple, and this is what we love about her. She captured the world’s attention with her music and style, but what caught our attention was her unfiltered approach to the way she makes you think. She uses her platform to push boundaries, dissect societal norms and encourage humans to think about the backward way our society continues to operate“.
Die Chefredakteuerin des Magazins, MJ Day, erklärt die Besonderheit der drei Cover: „If there’s one thing that our cover models have in common, it’s that they don’t have one thing in common. They look different, have different upbringings, have different passions and inspirations. But each is a reminder that beauty comes in many forms„. Naomi Ōsaka ist laut Aussagen von Day „the first female Black athlete on an SI Swimsuit cover„, und engagiert sich aktiv gegen Rassismus und für Menschenrechte . Das dritte Covermodel, Leyna Bloom, erfolgreiches Model und Schauspielerin, wird ebenfalls von MJ Day für ihre Vorbildfunktion gelobt: „Her presence as the first trans woman of color to be in our issue is a result of her lifetime dedication to forging her own path.“
