Einem TMZ-Bericht zufolge bezahlte das Label von DMX, Def Jam Records, die Beerdigung des am 09. April verstorbenen Rappers. Die Gedenkfeier, bei der der Sarg des Rappers in einem Monstertruck zuvor auf einem Gedenkzug angeliefert wurde, fand am 24. April in Brooklyn statt. Das Label, unter dem DMX 1998 bereits sein Debütalbum “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” releaste, bezeichnete den Künstler als „Bruder“ und eine „Inspiration für Millionen Menschen„. Am Todestag hatte das Label bereits folgenden Text verfasst: „Def Jam Recordings and the extended Def Jam family of artists, executives and employees are deeply and profoundly saddened by the loss of our brother Earl ‚DMX‘ Simmons. DMX was a brilliant artist and an inspiration to millions around the world. His message of triumph over struggle, his search for the light out of darkness, his pursuit of truth and grace brought us closer to our own humanity. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who loved him and were touched by him. DMX was nothing less than a giant. His legend will live on forever.“ Die Kosten sollen sich auf über 35.000 $ belaufen haben. Das posthume Album „Exodus“ erschien am 28. Mai und ist auf allen Plattformen erhältlich.
