Neuigkeiten im T.I. Prozess: Der Rapper, unterstützt von einer Armada an Topanwälten, hat auf unschuldig plädiert. Zudem hat sein Team einen Antrag auf Kaution gestellt, der sich auf $ 2.2 Millionen beläuft! Dabei bekam er finanzielle Hilfe von L.A. Reid und Lyor Cohen. Zudem soll T.I. laut Antrag 24 Stunden in seinem Haus bleiben und mit einer elektonischen Erkennungssystem ständig unter Bewachung bleiben. Allerdings hat der verantwortliche Richter um Bedenkzeit gebeten, so dass über T.I.’s Antrag erst nächsten Freitag entschieden wird.
Ja was denn nun? In einem Interview hat Nas nun nochmals deutlich gemacht, dass sein Album einen kontroversen Namen bekommt. Das Ding soll nun „Nigger“ heißen und am 11.Dezember erscheinen. Ich glaube zwar kaum, dass Def Jam das Album unter diesen Namen veröffentlichen wird, aber Nas‚ Beweggründe für den ungewöhnlichen Arbeitstitel kann man sich dennoch mal reinziehen:
„I wanna make the word easy on muthafuckas‘ ears. You see how white boys ain’t mad at ‚cracker‘ ‚cause it don’t have the same [sting] as ’nigger‘? I want ’nigger‘ to have less meaning [than] ‚cracker.‘ With all the bullshit that’s going on in the world, racism is at its peak. I wanna do the shit that’s not being done. I wanna be the artist who ain’t out. I wanna make the music I wanna hear. We’re taking power from the word. No disrespect to none of them who were part of the civil-rights movement, but some of my niggas in the streets don’t know who [civil-rights activist] Medgar Evers was. I love Medgar Evers, but some of the niggas in the streets don’t know Medgar Evers, they know who Nas is. And to my older people who don’t now who Nas is and who don’t know what a street disciple is, stay outta this muthafuckin‘ conversation. We’ll talk to you when we’re ready. Right now, we’re on a whole new movement. We’re taking power from that word.“
